Welcome to the Unionville Elementary School Enhancing Instruction blog. Members of the staff are encouraged to share their success stories of how they have enhanced instruction in their classrooms. This is not just about technology, it is a forum to celebrate all of those "Wow, that went really well!" moments that occur in the classroom. Please consider participating by adding a post or commenting on someone else's post.

Printing to the Copier

Print jobs can be sent directly to two of the copiers in our building. The main copier in the copy center as well as the copier on the second floor are set for this feature. Before sending jobs to the copier it needs to be added to the list of printer options on your computer. After it is added you simply select the copier instead of your normal team room printer. You can then select the number of copies you'd like before hitting print. (If you only print 1 copy you will have the opportunity to change the number of copies you need at the copier before the job is printed). Once you hit print on your computer it adds the print job to the job cue on the selected copier. You then finish the process at the copier. Please follow the link for directions on finishing the print process once you've sent your print job to the copier.

Setting Preferred Substitutes

Our substitute management system, Frontline Absence Management (Formally known as Aesop), allows you to select substitutes you'd prefer to have in your classroom. When an absence is submitted, the system checks the availability of your preferred substitutes and notifies them immediately if they are available. Click the link for directions on setting up your preferred list:

Wizer

Wizer is a web based service that allows you to create interactive worksheets. You are able to embed pictures and videos along with other types of content to make complete lessons. Some parts can grade themselves, while other parts, like open ended questions, require teacher review. You can select to provide immediate feedback if you are using it as a study guide. You are even able to record your voice reading the questions or allow students to create an audio reply rather than typing their response.

If you try it out you can share your experiences in the comments!

Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed

The next book about spreading kindness and practicing empathy is called Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson. I will share my copy of the book so you can pass it around and each take turns reading it aloud to your homerooms. It would make for a great class meeting discussion about being able to take someone else's perspective, why giving to others also helps us, population of the world, ripple/butterfly effect of actions etc... .

Even though it is a picture book, it is appropriate for all age levels.  Be creative and have fun with it. Please let me know how the kids respond. Here is a short video "book trailer" for the story:
Thank you!
